Bridges help to connect separated places, they are technological tools that make our life better, in elder times they were only constructions that connected different places but nowadays they are more than that. Bridges are architectural constructions, they are the expression of an architect idea, it goes beyond the fact of linking two different places; architects have changed the conception of a simple construction that help people make easy travels across major rivers.

Bridges are all around the world, currently designing a bridge is a big challenge for architects and engineers, they  have to apply new technologies for constructing those who have big span between their piers or those which design implies the use of different kinds of materials such as the  Calatrava bridgei n Argentina. Also, we can mention the Oresund Bridge, between Sweden and Denmark as an example of how difficult designing a bridge could be, it could not be an arch bridge or a suspension one because the boats could crash with the arches and the vibrations  of the cars and trains  would make it feel down, so that, the Sweden government decided to make a contest of cable stayed bridges (the only way that could be constructing because of its dimensions)

There are several kinds of bridges depending on how they are built; we can mention ARCH BRIDGES, BEAM BRIDGES and SUSPENTION BRIDGES. The Arch Bridges  are the most ancient type of bridge, arches were discovered in the Roman Empire and since that they were used in so many different types of constructions such as bridges. The benefit of an arch bridge is their resistance, it doesn’t matter the expansion between the shores, depending on that there will be different arches to a better distribute of the loads to the piers. They are basically curve Beam Bridge with abutments on both sides. Beam Bridges  are the simplest kind of bridge, their structure consist on a beam supported by an abutment at each end of the deck.  The third type, the Suspension Bridges  are so popular because of their characteristic of not having any support in the center of the span. The road deck is suspended in the air by wire cables connected to towers implanted to the floor.

A bridge brings a city so much more opportunities to develop their economics, culture and politics. The best example is the Brooklyn Bridge built in the ends of the 19th century. It design required extreme engineering, it piers have more than 200 ft above the water; at that time it was unthinkable to construct a bridge with those dimensions. The fact is that until now bridges help to keep the city economy growing, also most of them are considered as landmarks, they represent their cities and their citizens.
